Scientific Advertising

After recently discussing with a client how to increase click throughs to a certain part of their website I decided to send them a book - Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins... I don't know if they'll read it, but really any person in any company that has to look after a website or manage an online brand should make it compulsory...

I don't want to go on and start preaching about social media and advertising and online marketing and blah blah blah. As frankly that's all I hear at the moment. It's like this stuff is new and no-one has ever done it before, I don't want to get into that, suffice to say that freedom of knowledge has made everyone an "expert". Which is great!

Here's a link to Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins, he invented the coupon, he pioneered the use of metrics within advertising. The measurement of results, the modification of message and comparative analysis. This 42 page book will give you more ideas and more knowledge than most "social media experts" - oh and it was written in 1896... :)

OK. So some of it maybe a little out of date, but it is over 100 years old. Read and enjoy.

Microsoft’s marketing on LSD?

A part of me admires them for the quirkiness and obvious "out of the box thinking" (lol), but really I can't even bring myself to read it fully. You decide have a look at "Source Force and Amazing Friends

The great digital land grab…

Marketing agencies have finally awoken to the potential of digital marketing. For years they have ignored digital, mainly because they don’t understand it, it’s outside of their comfort zone, they need to invest in resource and they need to redevelop their approach. All scary stuff.

A few flash games

In my last company we used to create various online and mobile campaigns for the music industry. What with one thing and another I’ve recently dug out a couple of example flash games that we created.

Marketing your website

You’ve got a great website and now we need to get people to go to it; the old adage of “Build it and they will come” isn’t strictly true as if nobody knows that your website exists it won’t do you a lot of good. There are many ways to get people to your website, some obvious, some not quite so. There are a multitude of companies that specialise in “SEO” or search engine optimisation, whilst many do seem to work some kind of virtual voodoo the majority just follow a few simple steps that with a small investment of time we can do too.
