How to fit more junk in your trunk

I just wanted to quickly share a trick I’ve learnt whilst putting the final touches on our new CMS (more on that later no doubt). There’s nothing particularly clever about it, but it might save you some time.

An exercise in agility

When you develop for a customer you have two factors that help keep things on track. Time, and budget. More often than not, your customer wants it done yesterday, for as little as possible. That’s the nature of business. We thrive on maximizing our customers’ investments by ensuring they use technology appropriately for their requirements. This means we often strip out parts of a project if we feel they’re not adding to the end result or can’t be delivered quickly enough. We also try to use existing technology wherever possible to speed things up. All of this leads to a quick turnaround on a project and happy customers that keep coming back.

Regular expressions aren’t just for brain surgeons

We’ve got (or will have) quite a lot of validation in Pushhit and because we’re trying to de-couple Microsoft from ASP.NET wherever possible :) we’re not using any of the standard validation controls. This is mainly because their validation controls are generally a bit useless and output some nasty markup, they also don’t integrate well with our FLASH (this is our standard way for outputting error messages). Anyway, moving on… it’s kinda forced me to better understand regular expressions.

jQuery For Programmers: Part 1

I could probably write a small book on the virtues of jQuery and how it’s changed my JavaScript programming life and actually made it enjoyable…. however, let’s cut the crap and talk plugins!

Flashing is good!

Just in case you’ve ended up in the wrong place… this post isn’t about parks, trench coats and jumping out at people starkers. I’d try Google if that’s what you’re after!

Resizing images in .NET

There are lots of examples on the Interweb about how to do image resizing in .NET – unfortunately none of these quite hit the mark where we were concerned.

Saving exif info with images in .NET

As this is my first post on Ok-Cool I thought I’d keep it short and sweet!
