I’ve just discovered VectorMagic which lets you convert bitmaps into beautiful scalable vector images; and it does it online for free.

The output of this online service is pretty staggering. I tried a few grainy photos from a camera phone and all produced pretty amazing results. This is one of the many new online tools that I will actually use from time to time.

This was a low res image (307 pixels wide) uploaded to VectorMagic, converted and then zoomed right in. When screen grabbing for this blog I’ve obviously shrunk to fit. You can see that you can download an EPS, SVG or a bitmap PNG. I know that technology like this has been around for a while offline, but these applications are getting closer to allowing us the thin clients that we were promised years ago.
