It is indeed possible to watch 3 episodes of prison break before your laptop battery gives out. Here’s a few tips, some blatantly obvious and some… well, pretty obvious also… but here we go:

1. Dim the brightness on your laptop screen. This seems obvious but I actually always forget to do it. It will make a big difference.
2. Close down any applications (before you’re on battery) that are sending Internet data. This includes any IM clients, websites such as Google mail that might be regularly polling a server,… and yes, that bit-torrent client.
3. In fact… shut down any unnecessary apps completely as they’ll be using unnecessary clock cycles just sitting there.
4. Turn off your wireless network connection and unplug any peripherals. These will be a big drain.
5. Use WinDVD or a similar player that will actually allow you to watch the episode faster than real time… if you watch it 1.25x faster, the people don’t sound much different! :)
6. Don’t stop to write a blog post before you get going.
