I find the 'please type (insert word of choice here) in the input box' works better than any captcha I have used. My forum isn't used by thousands so it isn't hit hard by spam but the open field seems to be hard to guess.

Love that image. I wouldn't have a clue personally. :)

I'd personally think that no matter how nasty it is for these challenge response thingys to be around, they are better than comment span... I'd like to a series of pictures, maybe 3 or more, where the user was asked which one is the "cat" (or whatever)? Is there a reason why this hasn't been done before? Or has it?

Hey I'm pretty sure that you need to reverse the letters and then twist them upside down, then multiply and divide by the cosine of the nearest integer and there you have your code for registration. Pretty nifty!

Captchas can be quite impossible. I think that that sites should use a randomly generated math formula written in a mix of letters and numbers, "such as eleven + 3 is what?" that is different each time.

Yeah, I agree that it's KON1TUB, all of the other symbols are faded.

This kind of thing just shows how ridiculous current CAPTCHAs are, many are solvable by machines, I can even imagine a way that this one could be solved.

The best way I can think of is to have a nearly infinite set of images of dictionary words, like "duck", "fish", etc. (Easier said than done.) If the images weren't ever shown twice, the machine would have to be amazingly intelligent to pass, where a human would have little difficulty.

"What is this a picture of?"

I love the way this has turned in to a competition to work out what it was :) I'm not sure that was the purpose of the post.... meerly to point out how stupid captchas can be.
