Converting MIDI ringtones to SMAF (for Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp etc)
It’s actually very easy to convert MIDI files to the SMAF format. Firstly you need to download a free piece of software from Yamaha called SMAF Sound Decorator.
Once you have downloaded it, install it and load it up. Once loaded you will be presented with a nice looking control panel. Now drag your MIDI file on the application and you will see the little window at the bottom of the screen telling you various bits of information, the last line should say “Successfully completed”. Next choose a “planet”, this basically just selects different sound sets, if you are not sure which to choose, select “Standard”.
You can now press play and listen to the ringtone. If you are happy click “save as” in the top right of the window. The file window opens and you can save it where you like. The file saved will have an ”.mmf” extension. All you need to do is copy this to your phone as you normally would
