Bespoke woodwork - shameless plug
My dad has always been able to turn his hand to almost anything. It was quite inspiring growing up around him and he is responsible for teaching me everything I know about computers and IT.
He used to run a wood working business making plateracks for drying dishes. Each platerack required hundreds of holes drilled in it, so he built a large drilling robot controlled by a RISC based Acorn (this was back in the 80’s)… later came various other robots for things such as drilling dry ski slopes and preparing dowls for snooker cues! For a kid interested in technology, I couldn’t have asked for a better environment to grow up in.
He later turned his hand to medical electronics and taught himself everything he needed to know about embeded programming and PCB layout and design. I’m glad to say though that he’s doing more woodwork again these days and after not seeing much of his work for years I’m really pleased to see some of his great work online.
He’s just thrown together a simple site to show some of his recent work off. One of my favourite items is the cover for a well that someone found in their living room! He told me about this and I couldn’t quite picture it, but it looks great. Shown below:

Check out his site at http://www.finestwood.co.uk/ and drop him a line of support if you like his stuff.
